Federal Finance Department: 24-hour service at the General Customs Administration: 2021 and 2022 follow-ups of the Court’s recommendations
general assembly on March 15, 2023
In its report to the Federal Parliament, the Belgian Court of Audit took stock of the implementation of the ten recommendations in its initial audit of January 2019. At that time, it had examined the introduction of a 24-hour service at the General Administration for Customs and Excise of the Belgian Federal Department for Finance. At the end of its follow-ups on 30 June 2021 and 30 November 2022, the Court noted that four recommendations were met, two were being implemented and four had yet to be implemented. It pointed out the progress made, in particular in determining the staff needed for operating the 24-hour service, holding their number stable and monitoring their performance. Although these measures have increased the efficiency of the day-to-day management of the 24-hour service, improvements are still to be made for six of the ten recommendations.
