Dredging works in Flanders

The Belgian Court of Audit has examined how Flanders has been carrying out its maintenance, landscaping and deepening works in maritime access routes and navigable inland waters. Most of the time, the dredging contracts have been awarded after an open competition. However, several public procurements were insufficiently prepared and have been significantly extended or modified in an irregular way during their implementation. The lack of treatment and discharge capacity of polluted dredging spoil from Flemish inland waters has caused significant delays in the dredging works. Was it not for its serious shortcomings, the Amoras project would have brought a solution for the haven of Antwerp.
