Ability of the federal government departments to assess public policies

general assembly on March 14, 2018

In its report to the Parliament, the Court of Audit examines whether the federal government departments are able to assess public policies in a professional way. Most of them have developed a more or less extensive assessment practice, but a central vision and strategy as well as organisational measures to back them up are still lacking. The Court therefore concludes that a higher degree of professionalism is necessary. However, the resources required for implementing a fully-fledged monitoring and assessment system are not available. Additionally, assessment results are not sufficiently exploited as they are rarely made available to the general public.
