Contract Variation Costs met by the Flemish Agency for Sea and Shore Services (MDK)

The Flemish Agency for Sea and Shore Services (MDK) paid EUR 7.1 million less and 7.1 million more invoices on 43 public works contracts. As a whole, these invoices represent 39.9% of the total amount of the awarded works contracts. They indicate extensive changes of the works during performance, esp. in 2010 (53.4%). Huge invoices often result from careless preparation of the calls for tenders. Moreover, late processing of some invoices led to considerable penalties on arrears.
