Energy efficiency in the Flemish government buildings

Dutch speaking chamber on July 24, 2018

The Court of Audit examined whether the Flemish government authorities fulfil their exemplary role and make efforts to improve the energy efficiency of their own buildings in accordance with the European rules. It concluded that the measures advocated by the Flemish government with a view to achieve this goal are not ambitious enough. Yet, an additional insulation layer of 10 cm on the roof of about 30 buildings would already be sufficient to meet the EU-standards. The Flemish government also approved other action plans that are quite ambitious, but their implementation proceeds rather slowly. The audit represents Flanders' contribution to an international audit (cooperative audit) carried out by eight European Supreme Audit Institutions. The international report of this audit published on 5 October 2018 can be downloaded below, as well as the international press release (both in English).
