Social housing: policy and financing
Dutch speaking chamber on April 28, 2015
The Belgian Court of Audit has examined if Flanders has a well-founded social housing policy, if it is implemented and if the financial resources are adequate to reach the objectives set. The Court has concluded that Flanders has been lacking a clear global vision as well as a policy framework for housing in general and social housing in particular. Though it is a major objective, creating additional social houses to rent to the disadvantaged takes more time than expected. Besides, the subsidies have recently been cut, so that it will probably be complicated to create new social houses to sell. The Flemish minister in charge of Housing has already announced that measures will be taken to address the problems stated in the Court's report.
